Lady Dragon golfers come up short in Lubbock

Things didn’t turn out well for Carroll’s girls golf teams at the Class 5A Region I champions. After sweeping the District 5-5A championships the Lady Dragons couldn’t make their way to state as a team or individuals.

The Lady Dragons Black and Green squads came up short on the their bids to advance to the state championships. The regional meet was held on Monday and Tuesday at Lubbock’s Jerry Rawls Golf Course.

The Lady Dragons Black squad shot a two-day total of 656 to finish fourth. Carroll’s Green squad carded a two-day 726 to placed 12th. Allen, which returns to Region II next season, won the event by shooting a combined 621. Mansfield finished second (637) and El Paso Coronado was third (647).

After Monday’s round the top four teams sat the way they finished. Allen led with 313, Mansfield was second after shooting a 317, Coronado was third (320) and Carroll’ Black squad was 13 shots off the lead with a 326.

The course played much easier on Monday with temperatures near 90 degrees, clear skies and little wind. Tuesday the course played more like one located in West Texas as 20 mile-per-hour winds blew through the region and temperatures dropped into the upper 50s.

Allen was able to handle the win as they Lady Eagles fired 308 on Tuesday. Mansfield shot three strokes higher on the second day and Coronado added seven strokes. Carroll Black added only four strokes but wasn’t able to overtake Coronado.

Amy Glazier led the Black squad firing a two-day 158 to finished 15th overall. Kelsey Rockey shot a 160 to place 18th. Kalie Presti finished 29th with a 168. Sarah Hunt fired a 170 to finish 34th and Brynn Donovan carded a 194 to place 69th.

Pacing the Green squad was Emily Looft who shot a two-day 176 to finish 44th. Elizaberh Stone shot a 183 to place 53rd. Jenna Payette finished with a 185 to place 57th. Carolyn Balfour fired a 186 to finish 58th. Alex Park carded a two-day 194 to place 69th.
