The Medical Center of Mesquite and Mesquite Community Hospital have announced a decision to combine many of their services and expand others by creating Dallas Regional Medical Center.
It will result in a dual-campus health care system designed to meet the growing medical needs of Northeast Texas residents.
The new medical center will have two campuses in Mesquite; one on North Galloway Avenue and the other on Interstate-30, they are the current locations of The Medical Center of Mesquite and Mesquite Community Hospital
“The creation of Dallas Regional Medical Center signals a major expansion of our services, both for the residents of Mesquite, as well as for others throughout the metropolitan area,” said Henry Hawthorne, CEO of Mesquite Community Hospital. “By formally uniting our hospitals, we will be able to add depth and breadth to existing services through consolidation, while freeing up resources to develop and add new services.”
Following the May 1 merger, Dallas Regional Medical Center will be a 348 licensed-bed, two-campus acute care hospital with more than 300 staff physicians. Dallas Regional Medical Center’s services will include comprehensive 24-hour emergency and critical care, medical, surgical and cardiac services including open heart surgery, outpatient surgery, minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, weight loss surgery, obstetrical and nursery services, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, and imaging services.
When reorganization and renovations are complete, Dallas Regional Medical Center will expand on Mesquite Community Hospital’s HealthGrades ranking as the only Five-Star Maternity Program in the Dallas area with a comprehensive Women’s Center at its I-30 Campus. The new Women’s Center will feature an expanded labor and delivery area with enhanced postpartum and nursery services along with outpatient clinical and diagnostic services. Cardiac services will be centralized at the Galloway Campus, where a new cath lab will be added and patient care areas will be remodeled to increase the number of private rooms.
“This is far more than just a name change,” said Roy Vinson, CEO of the Medical Center of Mesquite. “Dallas Regional Medical Center represents a strong and lasting commitment to the people of Northeast Texas. These hospitals have dedicated staffs and more than four decades of history to build upon. All the resources are in place to make Dallas Regional Medical Center the clear health care choice in our community.”
The new medical center will operate under a single license with a unified medical staff and a single board of trustees.
“I think this is going to be really good for us,” said Dr. Nagaraj S. Kikkeri, Chief of Anesthesiology and owner of the Pain Management and Relief Center in Mesquite. “By joining together we are going to be able to offer so much more, both to our community and to the larger metro area. This unites the goals and missions of both hospitals and that will make us so much more effective at providing the most advanced health care possible and position us as leaders in the Dallas health care market.”
Signs of the reorganization are already noticeable on both campuses. Facility upgrades and renovations have begun and architects are designing the new women’s center on the I-30 campus. A new logo, Web site and comprehensive advertising campaign will be unveiled soon to promote and explain the benefits of the merger, including the consolidation and expansion of services.
“This is an exciting time for all of us,” said Hawthorne. “The changes that are taking place on these two campuses will have a significant impact on the lives of our patients. Uniting these two institutions will enable us to best direct our resources to providing technologically-advanced, high quality health care.”
