Dry Cleaner owner offers drive-thru postal services

Published: Monday, October 8, 2007 10:25 AM CDT
A local Flower Mound dry-cleaning business owner is using the one-stop shopping method to offer her customers a more convenient way to access postal services and products.

Durraya Kauser, owner of Prince Cleaners located at 601 Cross Timbers, hosted a grand opening Wednesday to celebrate her partnership with the U.S. Postal Service.

Through her store, Kauser will provide all of the services residents would expect from the local post office through the use of a Contract Postal Unit (CPU). The unit, which Kauser and her staff will work during their during shifts, will allows patrons to buy stamps, shipping boxes, insurance and return receipts, and the store will main a drop box.

Kauser is also offering the services with the store's drive-thru.

“To me, the drive-thru is very important, because sometimes young mothers, who have kids, can’t get out of their cars to come into the post office. They have to watch their children. This drive-thru will make it easier for them to mail their packages,” Kauser said.

Kauser entered into the partnership after a retailer specialist for the U.S. Postal Service sent her a letter in February 2007 asking if she would be interested in opening a CPU.

“We did this because we used to experience downtime in business from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We wanted to create some interest in our business and service some customers,” she said.

She responded in March, saying she was interested. After a survey of the interior space by the retailer specialist and approval, she had to move furniture to make space for the CPU.

The post office and dry cleaning service, which Flower Mound and Lewisville residents can use, operates from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

With her dry-cleaning, Kauser offers customers an area where they can drop off and pick up their clothes, 24 hours a day.

“We have a special room for the customers where they can bring their clothes. If they call during the working hours to pick up their clothes, we will set their clothes out in the room so that they can pick it up anytime,” she said.

During the first few days with the new service, customers seemed to enjoy the added convenience.

“Their service has always been perfect, and the addition of another service is a fine complement to their existing way of business,” said John Fox, an Argyle resident.

Joe and Janet Bogert said the new post office addition is closer to their home.

“We like that it is so close to us, otherwise we would have to either go to the post office in Lewisville or the main one in Flower Mound,” said Joe Bogert.

In an Oct. 3 statement, U.S. Postal Service Dallas District Manager Carl T. January Jr. said he was pleased with the departments collaboration with Prince Cleaners.

“This extension of service to our customers further allows the Postal Service to continue to meet customer needs in a way that is quick, easy, convenient and economical. Given today’s time demands on our customers, contract postal units provide them with the same level of service and cost they now receive at their local post office,” he said.
