Suspect lures victim with employment opportunity
By Zachary Markovic, Staff Writer
Police are searching for a Hispanic male who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman Thursday morning.
Around 6:30 a.m., Plano Police officers responded to a sexual assault call in the 3500 block of Bahama Drive.
Upon arrival, a distraught Hispanic female told the officers that she had been sexually assaulted by a Hispanic male. The victim stated that the suspect had contacted her under the pretense of hiring her to work for his hme-cleaning business.
“There are a lot of things people can do to protect themselves, but won’t because they think it is going too far,” Officer David Tilley said. “Always check on who you are going to work for.”
Tilley said with everyone hit hard by the economy, some people jump at the opportunity for work without fully researching the business. This falls especially true for people working as contract labor.
“People just trying to find work, and are doing whatever it takes to get income,” he said. “It is unfortunate that there are people out there that will take advantage of people in these difficult times.”
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 26 years old, 5-11 and 170-180 pounds wearing a baseball cap, gray sweatshirt, and black pants at the time of the assault. The suspect vehicle is described as a newer model, dark-blue Mazda (or similar type 4-door sedan vehicle) with gray interior and electric locks. A partial Texas license plate of 150L was given to police by the victim.
This is an ongoing investigation. Tilley said the police have good information on the suspect and is confident they can resolve the cases swiftly.

" A woman was sexually assaulted in our community and the previous poster is more concerned about readers' misinterpretation regarding the current state of the economy. What a sick disregard for human life!! I hope the woman mentioned in the article was not seriously injured and the police are able to find the criminal quickly. As for "The economy", save your comments for an article on gas/fuel prices or unemployment rates, where it is more appropriate. "

" That's the point you seem to be missing. This story is an inappropriate story for selling a recession.
My beef is with how this horrible crime has been used as an opportunity to spread FUD about the economy. This article's premise is that people are more likely to trust total strangers and get raped because of the economy! That is a totally absurd premise and Zachary should be ashamed. I can't believe that got past the editors.
You aren't going to shut down my opinion about that with ad hominem comments about me personally. "

" Thank you for posting this. I just started a new business where I will be contacted through email and by phone to provide services at customers homes. I will be sure to check into each customer before going. I knew to be careful, but now I know...dont take any chances! "

" We often need a wake-up call to be on our guard, and this story is definitely giving us that! It is a shame that people are victimized, as this woman was.
As for the first poster: 0% unemployment would be "ridiculously low". If you're one of the unemployed, it's doesn't matter what the statistics are. Clearly, you are not aware of the latest statistics showing higher than 4% figures, the drop in housing values, the state of the economy, our national debt, etc. Are you aware that someone is not considered statistically "unemployed" if they have used up their unemployment insurance? I know many previously well-paid executives in the Plano and Dallas areas that have been unemployed for more than 2 years--and not for a lack of trying. Wake up and smell the economy! If you are one of the few who are better off than you were 10 years ago, consider yourself lucky, but have some understanding of the position of others in your community--if that's at all possible for you to do. "

" Ann, the unemployment rate in Collin County was right at 4% in February - period. The economy here is very solid.
You happen to think we are suffering because of news stories like this one that blames a rape on the economy. Our unemployment rate right now is lower than it was 10 years ago. There are "Hiring" signs all over Plano.
What your house is worth does not make you unemployed and doesn't affect your income. The national debt does not affect your employment or your income. The fact that you are citing those two things shows your ignorance.
Your point about how even though we are at full employment there are still people who are poor goes without saying. Even if we had 10% GDP growth, there would still be people who suffer. The point you are missing is it’s a shame to use a rape story to spread propaganda about the economy during an election year.
This is the same crap they did in 1992 where everyone thought we were having a recession because of media reports and it turned out we didn’t have a recession.

" It's clear that this first and most recent poster (obviously one and the same) doesn't realize that he/she is the one bringing attention to the economic situation in the country, more so than the article would have done.
It's also clear that it's useless to point out reality to someone like this, since they are bent on believing what they want to believe. Please, posters, don't waste your time trying to state facts to this person. "

Do you know where everyone is hit hard? The price of food is now tied to the price of oil since we are now using food for fuel (corn ethanol). Wasn't that a great idea? Not only does E85 fuel give you 25-40% less mileage, it jacks up the price of food by historically the highest levels in a year. "
